BCF ♥

escape room setia walk
15/6/14

Vietnam trip (Day 4)

9 June 2014 (I don't know what happened to the date of posting when I upload the pics in Malaysia T^T )
Ho Chi Minh City
Independence Palace + Hard Rock Cafe + Fine Arts Museum + Thien Hau Temple + Phuong Nam Lacquerware + Russian market
You may see our tour seems a little more flexible as we book our own private tour so it would be more easy and more free style for us.
Not much pictures this time. Would upload it when I'm back to Malaysia as I could only upload the photos from the camera. A bit of Malaysia's type of speaking English with larhhh(s) and bahh(s) etcetera.

We woke up at around 7:00 am and then after awhile of lazy-ing around. We went down for breakfast. I finally had the intention of eating the jelly there, it looks like Malaysia's agar-agar. The reason why I usually don't have the intention in having it is that I'm afraid it taste too jelly. But when I tried it, it tasted delicious. Like they put passion fruit and dragon fruit in it and its sweet (not that sweet larhh, just right !) but when I went back the second time, there's no more left there. So again I had some sushi(s). Oh and this time I didn't toast the bread two times for my melted cheese. I just straight use fresh bread and put cheese in it and I toast it, however the cheese doesn't really melt finish. So yeahh, it taste very solid cheese like plastic ? I think maybe should straight melt it next time then toasting it.

So after eating, we start our tour ! First of all, we went to the Independence Palace

This palace was rebuilt in the 1962 as the original one was destroyed. So the new one was better larhh as it is bulletproof etcetera. Vietnamese culture is almost alike to Chinese one. Like they believe in Fengshui and Yin and Yang. Yin represents ladies which is also moon which is also white which is also right which is also deep. While Yang represents men which is also sun which is also red which is also left which is also high. ETC LARHHH. That's why their ladies toilet is usually only the right side while men's are on the left. Interesting sia. They also believe that 5, 9, 13, 17, 21, 25 etc is a good number, as long as you add 4 after 5. Why five ? Because they believe in the circle of life. It's like number 1, you were born, number 2, you grew up, number 3, you turned old, number 3, you passed away and finally number 5, you go through the process of recarnation. They think that like 12, 16, 20 etc doesn't brings good luck and it would bring bad luck. So they would count their staircase's steps and make sure it's those lucky number. If it's not, they would either cut the few steps into half to make it into the number they like, although it may look uneven but they believe the number is lucky.
The tour guide even told us that his friend's new house (like around 1 year +) staircase has only 20 steps. So he asked his friend whether is there anything that happened to him since he moved in. Then he said no. Then when he asked about his family, he said his dad passed away 3 months after they moved in. He said his father doesn't have any sickness and he was strong but don't know why, he just passed away suddenly.
You may be wondering why don't all the Vietnam house's staircase be built in a way that all the houses own the lucky number. Well, the tour guide told us that rumors said that the builders would actually build the houses in a way that every 3 - 4 houses would have one houses that owns the unlucky number as the unlucky house could give the other 3 - 4 houses their luck. Quite a special culture ehh.
Furthermore, they also believe that dragons with 2 eyes represents the king, dragons without any eyes are normal citizen. The king dragon actually have 5 fingers while the prince have 4 fingers and finally the citizen dragon have 3 fingers.
Some beliefs here and there. Vietnamese also take turtle, unicorn, dragon and phoenix are their 4 holy animals. That's why last time they would get 4 big turtles and put those carpet, and even mattress on them and take them as their bed stand or those carpet supporter (I don't what it's called). Of course the big type of turtle larh. BUT STILL TORTURING SIAA. So heavy like that, some more the turtles won't get squashed to death. They couldn't get freedom at all sia, it's like they would support the thing till their death. Furthermore, I couldn't understand why they take it as a holy animal but don't feed them. LIKE SERIOUS TORTURE SIA. So the turtles would always open their mouth waiting those flies to enter their mouth so they could eat. How could they do so to them ? T^T Luckily they don't do it now anymore.
Okay back to the palace topic, we spent the whole morning there. Going here and there. Honestly the palace here in Vietmam is better than the one in Malaysia. But the one in Malaysia got air cond larhh ahahaha. Even Thailand one also cannot fight. You may think Malaysia's palace is better, but I don't think so lurhh because orhh the one in Malaysia expensive only, it's make of good etc but Vietnam's palace have more facilities like they have their theatre and projector room. They even have an underground basement that there is some pathway still not yet discovered by the local as the person who planned this already passed away before it is fully built so yeahh, no one knows how the underground basement works. As some of the people believe that there is a secret passage for the kind to come out from the other side when some one came and fight in the palace. But some believe that it is only planned only, it isn't built. So no one knows larhh.

Ho Chi Minh statue (replica). The right flag at the back is Vietnam's national flag while the left one their local communist flag which is make up of a sickle which represents the farmer and an axe which represents the worker

Our tour guide

I find this cute and yes it's not real elephant's foot, I'm not that cruel in liking those stuff that has something to do with animal cruelty

Oh yeah, we saw this amazing people together making some words on the field outside the Indepence Palace building so I took a pic of it as it's really quite rare to see it now HAHAHAHA
I was at the rooftop (half open concept) of the building. TL4 sia, wonder what it stands for ? xD

Enough of palace talking. So after it, we went to the Hard Rock Cafe. We didn't spent much time there. As the Hard Rock Cafe in Ho Chi Minh City have only their shop and the restaurant, there isn't a hotel. Therefore, we just went there to take some pictures and shop awhile.

Cute teddy bears that wear hoodies

After that, we went for lunch ! We ate at Lemongrass restaurant. So I ordered sweet and sour sea bass fish soup. And I add on rice larhh. The taste is quite special and it's nice. It's a local dish and I like the taste of the soup, really sweet and sourish taste in a good way.

After lunch, we went to the Fine Arts Museum. It's kinda surprising to the tour guide that we want to go there because he himself had only go there 3 times as there is like almost 0 tourist that wants to visit that place. As people who usually come to Ho Chi Minh City around 3 - 4 days, so that's why we are the considered in the less tourist group that comes for 5 days 4 nights and are even considered the 1 % for tourists that wants to of to the Art Museum. I think my dad wants to go and relax gua ? So we went there. And the good thing there is you could snap the pictures of the art sculpture, paintings etcetera. I must admit I love paintings and all those art sculpture a lot. I don't know why larhh, I think it's interesting to look at them one by one and to think of the character of that particular painting or art sculpture and to also see how the color contrast and the way the thing is present. That's the beauty of art. It's like you could see everything in that piece of art. His character, feelings, personality, moods and all these. I just like to see all this. Especially paintings and art sculpture larhh I must say, those antique pots, vase etc isn't really my style. But those funny and unique art sculptures are my favourite, while as for paintings, I like those painting with the cultures of the particular country or those random beautiful people doing something random or those un-understandable arts or those scenery with simple trees or something else.
So I actually took a lot of pictures in there until I noticed the memory is already full. Oopssss, so I ended up deleting those I don't really like for the sake of saving more memories for other places :/

A painting that expresses the feeling of the situation during the war

Art sculpture of 6 people

Unique teapot

Cute looking art sculpture, it looks like a robot ( ^ω^ )

An art sculpture full of feelings about the starve that the citizens faced during the war

What I see is there is 3 people in this family. A dad, a mum and a baby

After visiting the Art Museum, we went to 天后宫, they call it Thien Hau Temple which is Malaysia's version of Tian Hou Gong. The locals call it Thien Hau Tu and it could also be called as Thien Hau Pagoda which is actually a Chinese temple located in China town of Vietnam. We didn't went shopping in China town as the stuffs there are sold in wholesale way.
We didnt spent much time in Thien Hau Tu as most of us are Christians. But my dad ain't, so he asked for blessings for our family by donating 1 USD to get a kind of smoking conicals incense coils and you actually write your name (my dad's only then) on a red piece of paper (they provide) and you write the date on too. So you hang it on a kind of smoking conicals incense coils (that you later burn it) and finally you hang it infront of the main temple.

The huge smoking conicals incense coils on the middle right is the one my dad hung

After it, we went to Phuong Nam Lacquerware. It's a place where you can see them making paintings out of egg shells and lacquer. Quite interesting and I must admit it needs a lot of patience as it needs about 3 months for those waiting here and there larhh, so they usually one short make a lot de.

After that, we went to Russian market, nothing much extraordinary there. Just an ordinary shopping centre, we requested to go there as we thought it would be like Ben Thanh market. But it turns out no. So forget about it larhh.

Then we went back to the hotel to have a rest for 2 hours.

After our not really nap time (I was typing this blog till the paragraph above), we planned to go for dinner at 7:00 pm. So we actually asked the tour information of our hotel for nice food nearby that is within walking distance. She actually recommend us to eat Lemongrass HAHAHAHA, then we told her we already had our lunch there. And finally she recommend us to eat at Restaurant Ngon 138. I must admit it is a really scary way walking over there. It's definitely not really safe as the nearby street lights were burnt off or something but there is no lights on on that few particular streets. And it's kinda late already, around 8:00 pm ++ Malaysia time. I'm starving and on the way there, there is 2 barbecue restaurant that smells so good and is actually fully packed. So I'm kinda jealous and I'm starting to beg my dad that we could eat there. It's a 20 minutes walk (the girl just that actually estimated that we would use 10 minutes only), after walking and stopping and looking at the map. We finally did reach there ! (´∀`=)
The restaurant here is very special, it really makes me feel surprised as they have two floors. And the middle part of the lower floor is for the chef to cook. They actually cook open air. I first thought it's a buffet meal HAHAHAHA yeapp those kind of concept, very neatly organized into a few stations. Like a station of fried stuff, another for noodles etcetera. You could actually go and observe how they cook but you know I don't know it as I'm at the upper floor waiting for food. After considering for a long time on what to eat, I finally choose to try 'Fresh Vermicelli with Fish and Dill'. I wasn't sure on what's vermicelli and dill, this two words. But the picture on the menu looks quite special so after asking the waitress what's both the two terms (I shall call it). They told me that vermicelli is their kind of noodles and dill is their Vietnamese vege. I guess it's okay with me then HAHAHAHA.

So this is it. The soup taste really nice, a little sourish type, like laksa but it's not spicy. And the noodle aka vermicelli is so delicious and slippery, just like laksa noodles. SUPER LIKE IT. Furthermore, the fish doesn't smells although it looks like it will. The vege was okay, raw type, just like those any other. But the fishballs. Oh my, so freaking nice. I must say I don't like fishballs at all, but this, I could eat it everyday. I FREAKING RATE THIS AS THE BEST VIETNAM DISH I HAVE EVER TRIED IN MY WHOLE LIFE.

After that, we walked back home.

I just bathe, and I don't know why, I put the temperature in between hot and cold (like what I did usually). And the moment I step into the bathtub, I find it cold, only that second, but when it comes to my senses, true senses, wheww, super hot sia. Like I'm dancing naked in the bathroom just now HAHAHAHA (of course with no audience larhh, siao merhh, I'm not that open siol). It's as hot as those sizzling claypot noodle ya know ? the temperature of the soup inside :/ Okayy so I'm like letting the water flow with a cold water and the water draining out for around 15 minutes, like seriously I kept on checking continuously but on the 15 minute only I find myself comfortably warm in the bathtub. LIKE SERIOUSY I WOULD TURN INTO A ROASTED CHICKEN IF I PUT THE TEMPERATURE TO THE MAXIMUM ONE.

Vietnam trip (Let's go home !)

Ho Chi Minh City
Not much pictures this time. Would upload it when I'm back to Malaysia as I could only upload the photos from the camera. A bit of Malaysia's type of speaking English with larhhh(s) and bahh(s) etcetera.

So I guess it reaches the time to say farewell ? xD Anyways, we still had fun throughout the whole trip !
I woke up around 6:30 am in the morning, and after some lazy-ing around on the bed, I finally got up at 7:00 am HAHAHAHA.
After packing for awhile, we went down for breakfast. Once I reached there, I set my eyes on the western corner. They had fried sweet potatoes :D Although there isn't much left, but I took them all. I also took some sushi(s) too (almost all remaining left hahahah). BUT NOOOO, THERE ISN'T ANY JELLY LEFT T^T MY FAVOURTE PASSION FRUIT AND DRAGON FRUIT MIX JELLY.
The fried sweet potatoes were niceeee, not oily and the good thing is that when i take it it's already cold however it's still kinda hard compared to the normal one that can be bought in supermarket. Those bought in supermarket when it is already cold is really soft and it's not even crispy at all so yeahh I don't like cold fried stuff but this is niceee, I know I repeat this a lot of time but it is really nice ((feel like slapping myself hahahah.
When I'm done with my breakfast, I'm planning to go see whether the jelly is out again. AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IT CAME OUT AGAIN ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ I quickly took a bowl and I took every remaining of it (around 8 ?) I KNOW I SOUND FAT but yeahh Vietnamese food healthy marhh, every lunch and dinner also very greenish and not even oily, furthermore I didn't eat much this morning except for a boiled egg and fried potatoes and some sushi(s) so the jellys nothing de larhh (I know I'm finding excuses but yeahhh let me don't feel guilty on putting on weight here :P)

After breakfast, we went to Ben Thanh market for the last time. We bought a bag and yeapp some dry goods again. When we were waiting for the dry stuffs to be weigh and measured, suddenly, the two sales lady started to talk in Vietnamese while looking at me. Awwwwkward. Then the lady who know how to speak English better asks me whether I want another soursop candy. OF COURSE LARHH. I sound like I very bu yao lian (つД`)ノ I just nod while smiling larh HAHAHAHA. I didn't really show that I like it. As usually I just take myself like that's my father's shop like that, of course not that many larhh, siao merhh, people doing business marhh. So I remembered I just slipped two in my pocket. Maybe she found out, but I'm pretty sure no one sees it de sia. I think the other way she knows it is because I told my dad that it's nice and asked him to try. But it's not that obvious sia, as other than that I also tried many stuff. THEY ARE SO OBSERVANT THAT I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW.

At around 12:00 pm ? We went out for lunch. Again at PMG ARTS & CAFE. But now I rethink about it, I think the restaurant is quite selfish sia, yeahh larhh, we shouldn't take any pic in an art gallery or something larhh but FYI the Vietnam's art musuem even allow us to do so and now you are also in the same country yo the not other Western or Asian country, like people's painting has more varieties and bigger sia, like seriouslyyyy, I would have just take away some really nice fast food and bring it over outside the art musuem (there is still statues outside marhh hahaha of course don't bring in larhh).
Back to the topic, the reason why we had lunch there again this time is because we don't want to be to rush as this restaurant is right behind our hotel and furthermore our taxi would be coming at 1:20 pm. So I was planning to have vermicelli with those sourish soup but they had fried one only and if I want to order fish, they had this snake fish (I think it's kinda weird) so it's either vegetarian or pizza only. So I go for tuna pizza again, thinking this may be my last time of having it (I mean I can live longer larhh, just afraid that I may not have the chance to come here again when the restaurant isn't close yet or maybe the chef change already lerhh or maybe they have new menu lerhh or maybe next time I face bankruptcy cannot go overseas lerhh (choiiiii) ?)

Tuna pizza ! xD

My bro ordered fried noodles with beef

A friend ordered this. Maybe I didn't take any pictures of spring rolls yet, that's all I took a picture of her food HAHAHAHA

After our lunch, we went back and after some time, it's already 1:20 pm. And we found a huge bus outside :0 I first thought it's some random bus, so i was still looking out for our van. Who knows it's ours HAHAHAHA.

Saw this real cute shop on the way there HAHAHAHA

We reached the airport around 1:40 pm and after waiting for like a long while, the person in charge for the check in only came at 2:20 pm as they said the check in person only comes two hour before the airplane flies. We only did finish check in at around 2:50 pm as our line we queued on is really slow because there is this group of inconsiderate people infront of us. It's like they are a group of around 20 people in a tour. However, they queue up in different line to see which line is faster. When they found out our line is faster, all of them came over (like from 7 to suddenly 20) just because they want they tour guide to help them check in. Quite ridiculous sia as people like us won't actually queue up in this line as we could go to other shorter line, but we queued up in this line because we just see that less people and then suddenly all of them came over. Even those who just came much later than us are already done with their check in. So we are like standing for 1 hour plus just to queue up :/

So their flight delayed a little and the airplane only came at 4:50 pm (which supposed to come at 4:20 pm). My brother was really happy as the plane we are sitting is Queen Park Rangers airasia plane. Like seriously very 难得 (rare) as it's like when we reach Malaysia. It seems like this is the only Queen Park Rangers airasia plane, there is another one with Taylor Swift's theme.

We reached at 8:00 pm (local time this time) and it's quite early actually (they expected 3 hours because it's an international flight but usually 2 hours de larhh, we also touch down Vietnam in 2 hours only) after all custom and those luggage-taking (lol my english). It's around 9:00 pm already as the sistem is really slow.

And our taxi (van taxi) is really slow so we reached home at 9:45 pm. So I'm still hungry (I didn't have my dinner yet) so my dad cooks maggie mee for me hahahhaha.

So I think it has come to an end of my Vietnam trip, it's really fun and I really enjoy my stay there ! (I know it's a lame ending so yeahh byee xD )

Vietnam trip (Day 3)

Ho Chi Minh City
Church + Saigon Square + Vincom Center (B) + Saigon Centre + night market
Not much pictures this time. Would upload it when I'm back to Malaysia as I could only upload the photos from the camera. A bit of Malaysia's type of speaking English with larhhh(s) and bahh(s) etcetera.

Today is a sabbath day ! So we woke up quite early like 6:30 am ? And we went downstairs to have our breakfast again. They have sushi(s) sia SO NICEEEE. And I took some toasted bread and I melted cheese on top of it with the toaster (hotel type) so yeahhh I guess next time I would put fresh loaf of bread with cheese on top rather than to toast it only then put the cheese to melt it by toasting it again, it makes the bread a bit over cooked HAHAHAHA but yeah it's nice c:

Then we took this kind of vinasun taxi that they say it's local taxi that is much more worth it as they are more honest and yeahh off we go to the church which is the Cholon Chinese Church. Surprisingly, I feel like I'm in Malaysia in this church as they speak Cantonese like finally a language I can understand. It's tough in Vietnam as they could only speak Vietnamese and not other language. Even if its English, just those simple one. Ohh, the tour guide's English is so far the best English I've heard from them.
So the Church service starts from 8:30 am to 11 am. 8:30 to 10:00 is for sabbath school while 10:00 to 11:00 is the divine service.

After the church services, we got help from the local church members to continue our journey. We actually planned to go to Saigon Square (some tourists introduce us to visit) but they couldn't understand us and they thought we want to go to Vincom centre. Then finally we thought we got the wrong name so we thought it is Saigon Centre. Then they understand. And then with the help of some church members, we managed to get on two taxi(s) and they kind of like communicate with them in Vietnamese on where we are going.

Who knows they brought us back to Ben Thanh market. And we told the taxi driver we want to go to Saigon Centre, then he brought us there. On the other side, they also went to Ben Thanh market. So I don't know why, I think because different church member giving information than the one that the church member we told to. That's why, actually both taxi drivers went to Ben Thanh market. And the shittiest thing is that the five people here actually knows where we are going while the five people there don't as they are kinda old, so they usually just follow. So after calling a few times (although overseas charge like seriously a lot) we walked back to our hotel. And there they are. Luckily they know how to come back lolol. And luckily all this supermarket and our hotel is in District 1 which means it's all reachable in walking distance.
So with that walking back, we found out that actually there is a Saigon Square in between Saigon Centre and Ben Thanh market.

So again we walk back to Saigon Square not Centre. Ermm, Saigon Square is a shopping place more on clothes and electronic gadgets. The clothes sold there is not that tourism type, not like with those I Love Vietnam type but those fashion type of clothes. Not to say Ben Thanh market doesn't have the fashion type but Saigon Square has more of it not like Ben Thanh market is more of a ratio of 5:5. Of course the things sell here suit us more larhh but on the other side, I think the stuff in Ben Thanh market is cheaper as it is bargain-able. So see what you like larhh, I prefer Saigon Square as there is air cond and there is more things to see but Ben Thanh market is an interesting place so yeahh see what you like lurhh HAHAHA.

Then after awhile we went for lunch. We went back to the PMG ART CAFE which is also called Phuong Mai Art Cafe. So yeahh I ordered tuna pizza again xD

Here is a picture of it, finally remembered to take pictures of food. Taking pictures of food were definitely not my style HAHAHAHA

So after lunch, my parents were planning to head back to buy some more dry goods. As Ben Thanh market is too hot and crowded for me to stand, me and my bro head back to the hotel for some nap. We actually spent our time watching movies and surfing the net larhh, not really nap. But later I did had a short nap.

After that, we went to have our dinner in Vincom Center (B) this time. On the way there, we passed through the famous opera stadium. Actually all this Vincom Centre, Opera stadium, churches look like those Angmo (American ?) buildings, so beautiful sia. That's why that part of the buildings are call the French town or French something, forget dy.

Back to the topic. We had Thai Express and honestly the food here of Thai Express is way better than the ones in Singapore. Like I really enjoyed it. I ordered sweet and sour fish so this is how it looks like.

Then we walked around Vincom Center (B) and we then find it all more of a family type of shopping with more home appliances in it. So we were planning to go back. But I thought of going to Saigon Centre for some reasons larhh although shopping is not my type, I think mostly because I don't want to walk back here again hahahaa yeappp I think that's what I think then. Lazy ehh ?
But they seems like they are heading back to the direction of the hotel. At that exact moment, the sky starts to rain. And it's DRIZZLING HAHAHAHAHAH

So we planned to go in and look around. Not bad larhh, we spent quite a long time in one particular shop that sells those cold and heat therapy thingy. It's like a kind of sack that has herbal that when you heat it for two minutes in a microwave, the heat could sustain for around 40 minutes. It's really comfortable and it could help for our blood circulation etcetera. Like there is eye mask one, so it could make your eye feel comfortable. And there is those belly type one, it's more worth it for the belly one as you could actually use it for your back too and it could reduce back pain and could help in slimming. And more larhh, I'm not a promoter here HAHAHAHA. Quite cheap larhh, around RM215, 1,390,000 Vietnam Dong. Okay larhh, but can use for 3 years nia, later then need to change already as the herbs inside yeahh. So after rounding off, it's like 20 cents per day larhh. But the problem is there isn't any microwave in my house, we only had oven. The temperature of that particular microwave is around 700 °C , I don't real or not larhh, there also didn't write and they seems unsure too. Other than that, microwave could actually heat the substance more overall, so it could heat it more inside. So we didn't buy larhh at last.

Found this really nice and decent art sculpture in one of those home decor store. Like it a lot ;-; too bad it's too too expensive

After that, we begin walking back to the hotel. On the way back, we went to the night market again. Finally bought something for my best friends. But it's kinda weird larhh, I hope they could find it useful ? I don't know sia, but they better use it HAHAHAHA.

Now we are back and yeahh, I've just tried those local potato chips (those in fat packets like Chipsters, Twisties, Lays etcetera) and I must admit my friend was right about it, it really does taste delicious. I took the sushi flavor and I didn't expect much as it is less than RM3 like around 20,000 Vietnam Dong (forget le, bought it in Day 1). I thought it would taste like seaweed, as those Malaysia seaweed type of potato chips doesn't taste really nice, so so larhh. But the ones here taste really nice. Like truly sushi flavor. But too bad larhh cannot buy back as it would expand and burst when we go back by plane.

That's all, oh and to my best friend Bon Voyage yo ! Have fun in Korea X) LYLAS
